Visiting the Sonoita Wine Country
Marilyn and I drove south to the Sonoita wine country today. There are about a dozen wineries in the Santa Rita Mountains about 40 miles from Tucson. After a beautiful drive, we arrived at a grassy high plains region about 5,000 feet above sea level. They grow mostly tempranillo and grenache grapes in the Sonoita region and make some suprisingly good red wines. We visited three wineries and had dinner at The Cafe on the way home. It was a really nice day with absolutely no crowds to contend with. We will have to go back again someday.
