Hiking to the Romero Pools at Catalina State Park

Dave and Rick hiked the Romero trail at Cataline State Park in Oro Valley, Arizona with 28 of our fellow Voyager resort members. The hike was advertised as a 1000 foot climb from 2700 feet to 3700 feet where the Romero pools were located in the Catalina Mountains. As you can see, the trail was pretty rocky and had plenty of switchbacks. But after traversing several canyons from the trailhead, we finally arrived at the pools that were formed by a stream rushing down the canypn from Mount Lemmon. The water in the pools was about 40 degrees. We had lunch on the rocks around the pools and then headed back. All told, we walked 5.6 miles and it took about 4 hours. The weather was sunny and about 78 degrees by the time we finished at 1 PM. The canyons were green with vegetation and the saguaro cactus were plentiful. I think it was our best hike thus far.
